Saturday Night Live All Videos Newest Videos NBC com

Saturday Night Live has long been an incubator for future superstar performers – they develop their talents, grow their name recognition, and eventually, they move on. But this year it looks like we might be losing three big ones all at once, and it's just so hard to say goodbye. Watch our tribute to SNL's (allegedly) departing cast members.

Fred Armisen might not have officially announced his departure from Saturday Night Live, but last night's final sketch seemed like a fitting farewell. (According to the New York Post, a source at NBC confirmed that Armisen would be moving on.) Drawing on his pre-SNL background in music, the multi-talented (and well-connected) comedian closed the show's season finale in the guise of Ian Rubbish, the Thatcher-loving British rocker he introduced just over a month ago in the "History of Punk."

Backed by fellow departing castmate Bill Hader, Jason Sudeikis (who the Post's source says is probably also leaving) and Taran Killam as the Bizarros, Armisen sang a wistfully optimistic little number called "It's a Lovely Day." He was soon joined onstage by Portlandia co-creator Carrie Brownstein, followed by a supergroup's worth of other indie rock royalty: Kim Gordon, J. Mascis, Steve Jones, Aimee Mann and Michael Penn.

SNL Early this week, cast member Bill Hader announced that he’s leaving the show, which left plenty of time to put together a silly, touching sendoff. Not surprisingly, the sketch featured Hader’s most popular character: the flamboyant “Weekend Update” city correspondent Stefon. After a squabble with host Seth Meyers, Stefon storms off to get married. (We won’t ruin the surprise — you have to watch to see who the groom is.) With a nod to The Graduate, Meyers breaks up the wedding and the two run off, happily ever after, back to the “Weekend Update” desk. The sketch also seemed to serve as an early farewell to Seth Meyers, who’ll be heading over to Late Night in 2014.
